Mary Agnes Thompson, 84, Harvey, ND died Wednesday, July 27th 2011 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Mary was born July 10th, 1927 in Covington, GA. The daughter of Grover Cleveland Smith and Mittie May (Redmond) Smith. She grew up in Cassia, FL. She graduated from Eustis High School in Eustis, FL in 1945.

She married Clarence Thompson at Cassia Baptist Church on November 8th, 1947. They moved to Harvey, ND where they raised their family and lived together for 48 years until Clarence’s death in 1995. They had five children. Mary continued to live in Harvey until 2007 when she moved to Grand Forks, ND. Mary then moved to Thief River Falls, MN in 2009 where she lived until her death.

Mary began working for Behm’s Propane 1969 as a bookkeeper and office secretary with her husband Clarence. She retired in 1989. Mary enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, feeding the birds, and collecting Barbie Dolls. She was actively involved in teaching Sunday School. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and would travel across the Midwest and South visiting them throughout her retirement. She was especially fond of dogs and all dogs loved her.

Mary is survived by her children; Wayne (Donella), Great Falls, MT; Mark (June), Grand Forks, ND; Marilyn (Michael) Helgeland, Thief River Falls, MN; Bruce , Minneapolis, MN; Timothy (fiancé Cindy Cornell), Racine, WI; seven grandchildren (Andrea Tichey, Jennifer Hatzenbeller, Bryce Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Parker Thompson, Wyatt Thompson, Keri Stewart); eleven great-grandchildren; her brother Grover Cleveland (June) Smith Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary both of Harvey.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Clarence; sister Pam Chandley; and brother Alfred Smith.

Funeral services will be held at First Lutheran Church in Harvey, ND on Monday, August 1st, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.

Visitation is at Hertz Funeral Home on Sunday, July 31st, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
