N.D. Highway 22, key oil patch highway, to reopen within a week

Officials shut down N.D. Highway 22 north of Killdeer on May 20 because ground shifting had caused the pavement to buckle, making the road impassable.

BISMARCK — State Transportation officials say a second temporary bypass should be completed within a week on a stretch of a heavily traveled western North Dakota oil patch highway that was closed nearly two months ago.

Officials shut down N.D. Highway 22 north of Killdeer on May 20 because ground shifting had caused the pavement to buckle, making the road impassable.

Officials say once the bypass 18 miles north of Killdeer is complete, traffic will be allowed on the highway between Killdeer and Mandaree. Work on a temporary bypass on the highway two miles south of Mandaree was completed earlier.
