Well-known actor and Minot native Josh Duhamel called a Minot television station Thursday from Moscow, where’s he’s promoting his latest movie, expressing his concern for his hometown and for the people who have had to evacuate their homes.
“My sister and my whole family live in Minot,” Duhamel said, speaking with Shaun Simpa of KXMC-TV. “I’ve been keeping in touch with them. They are moving out of their house. It sounds like they’re going to lose their home.”
Duhamel, who stars in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” which opens today, grew up in Minot, attended elementary through high school there and Minot State University, and lived there until he was 22.
“I’ve been glued to my computer watching you guys on U-stream,” he told KXMC. “It’s difficult to see some of the stuff that’s happening there right now.”
Duhamel also made an appeal for Minot during a promotional appearance on the syndicated TV show “Entertainment Tonight,” asking people to be aware of the Minot flood and to help if they could by donating to the Red Cross (minotredcross.org/).
He also Twittered Tuesday, asking for prayers for the people of his hometown.
During his telephone interview with KXMC, Duhamel talked about how well he knew Minot and how water was inundating some of his old haunts and favorite places, such as Ramstad Junior High School and Sammy’s Pizza. He also talked about planning a fundraiser for the city of Minot at a later date, which might involve his wife, Fergie, who sings with the Black Eyed Peas.
“I feel a little bit silly sitting here in Moscow promoting a movie when I feel like I want to be home,” he said, then later added: “But if there’s anyone who is equipped to handle something like this, it’s the people of Minot.”
