BISMARCK — Flooding in the Souris River basin has disrupted the major east-west route across northern North Dakota.

State Transportation officials on Thursday closed U.S. Highway 2 about four miles west of Towner because of water on the roadway. Westbound lanes reopened about midday today but the eastbound lanes remained closed.

Motorists heading east are advised to use alternate routes.
