BISMARCK — A proposal to cut North Dakota taxes on charitable gambling has a second chance.

The North Dakota House defeated the proposal Monday. Today, representatives voted to revive the bill.

Negotiators will now try to work out a compromise that can win approval in both the House and Senate.

The bill seeks to replace several taxes on charitable gambling with a single 1 percent tax on wagers.

The idea would mean $10.8 million less in taxes for the state treasury over two years. Some lawmakers objected to the loss of revenue.

The House has previously approved a smaller tax reduction that included a 2 percent tax on wagers.
