The Louis Murray Bridge, which connects the Point area of East Grand Forks with the north end of East Grand Forks, closed at 10 a.m. today because of rising river levels.
When the bridge closes, Point residents can still access the city's north end and Grand Forks through a southern detour, extending past Bygland Road to U.S. Highway 2 via County Road 72 and State Highway 220.
The Sorlie Bridge that connects downtown Grand Forks and downtown East Grand Forks by DeMers Avenue and the Point Bridge connecting the two cities near the Murray Bridge, have already been closed.
The Kennedy Bridge connecting East Grand Forks and Grand Forks by Gateway Avenue/Highway 2 is still open.
As a result of the Louis Murray Bridge closing, Cities Area Transit will modify its East Grand Forks routes, offering service to East Grand Forks south end residents on a call in basis. Those needing a ride can call (701) 746-2600 to get a ride to the north end of East Grand Forks or Grand Forks.
East Grand Forks has also closed the city's Green Site, drop-off recycling and yard waste center. Recycling can be dropped off at the East Grand Forks public works department at 1001 2nd St. NE.
