Isadore "Isi" J. Gamache passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, on the Feast of St Joseph, surrounded by his family.
Isadore Joseph Gamache was born September 11, 1927, to Arthur and Hermindine (Beauchamp) Gamache, on the farm his grandfather homesteaded, 2 ½ miles from Olga, ND. He attended Olga School through 8th grade. He was drafted into the Army February 28, 1946, served in Company 7, 78th Engineer Combat Battalion and was honorably discharged August 29, 1947. In 1949, Isadore moved to Grand Forks where he worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company for two and a half years.
Isadore married Verna Krawchuk on March 1, 1951 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. He worked as a clerk at the Grand Forks Post Office for thirty seven years until his retirement in 1989. Isadore was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He supported Real Presence Radio and was an avid Fighting Sioux Hockey fan. "Isi" and Verna enjoyed taking their family on adventures. They would go camping and fishing with family and friends. They also liked to travel, often to visit members of their large families. Family get togethers were always a fun and special time. Isadore was blessed with a wonderful group of friends that after his wife had passed would look in on him and they cared deeply for him.
He is survived by, a daughter, Virginia "Ginny" (Rick) Bartlette, Grand Forks, ND; sons, Donald, Grand Forks, ND, Brian, Colorado, Perry (Michelle), Fertile, MN; grandchildren, Christopher (Katherine) Bartlette, Erin (Vincent) Weppner, Adam Gamache, Joel Gamache; a great granddaughter, Arica Bartlette; brothers, Leonard, Washington, Edward"Pat", Minnesota; sisters, Helen Davidson, Grand Forks, ND, Marilyn Carl, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna a son, Michael; a great granddaughter, Anne Julia Weppner; sisters, Rolande, Dorothy Gendreau, Aurice Nichols, Theresa Gendreau, Irene Jones; brothers, Romeo, Ronald, Arthur "Jackie", Wayne.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. rosary service and 6:00 p.m. vigil service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND, in the spring.
Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota National Guard, in the spring.
