The Polish National Alliance sixth annual Polish Food Fest is set for Saturday in the Minto (N.D.) Community Center, with Polish dance performances, an ethnic meal and a dance to Matt Hodek & the Dakota Dutchmen.

The Polish National Alliance sixth annual Polish Food Fest is set for Saturday in the Minto (N.D.) Community Center, with Polish dance performances, an ethnic meal and a dance to Matt Hodek & the Dakota Dutchmen.

PNA Dancers, beginners through advanced, will perform at 3:30, 4:15, 5 and 5:45 p.m., with the PNA alumni dancers performing krakowiak and polonaise at 6:30 p.m. Dinner, served from 3 to 7 p.m., will feature pierogies, potato pancakes, kielbasa (sausage), kluski (potato dumplings), golabki (cabbage rolls), kapusta (sauerkraut and pork ribs), pork and horseradish sauce with mustard, czarina, fresh herring, salads, mountain cake and Polish desserts. Admission is by freewill offering. The Community Center is a smoke-free building.

The dance will be from 7:30 to 11 p.m.

American Legion birthday celebration

American Legion Post No. 6 of Grand Forks will have a “Happy 92nd Birthday” celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the sixth floor of the Grand Forks County Office Building, 151 S. Fourth St., Grand Forks.

The family potluck dinner will be hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary members, with a cake donated by Kirk and Joan Smith, members of the American Legion and Auxiliary.

The evening will begin with a social at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Those who attend are asked to bring a favorite hot or cold dish to share.

There will be door prizes, a speaker and musical entertainment. Please RSVP to Sue Kime, (701) 746-4723.

Schafer to speak at luncheon

Former North Dakota governor and U.S. secretary of agriculture Ed Schafer will speak about the Republic momentum in 2012 at Politics & Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Grand Forks Guesthouse/Townhouse. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The event is sponsored by Grand Forks Republicans and is open to the public.

Ice Show set for March 19

The East Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Department and the Northern Lights Figure Skating Club will present the 39th annual Ice Show “One Hit Wonders” at 7 p.m. March 19 and 2 p.m. March 20 at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

About 170 skates, boys and girls ages 3 to 18, will take part. Admission will be $6 for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens and free for preschoolers and younger.
