BISMARCK — North Dakota's House has resolved a property dispute involving the University of North Dakota's Energy and Environmental Research Center.
Representatives defeated a bill that would have given the center's director power to block proposals to develop UND property near the center that included the old Ralph Engelstad Arena site. The vote today was 83-9 against.
The bill's sponsor says center director Gerry Groenewold (GROAN'-wald) didn't have anything to do with introducing the bill.
The measure was intended to keep property near the center open for the center's possible use, without having it developed for another purpose.
The Board of Higher Education opposed the bill. The board said it undercut the authority of UND President Robert Kelley.
The bill was HB1231.
