Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., has agreed to serve on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, he announced Friday.

It’s the fifth committee assignment for Conrad, who also serves as chairman of the Senate’s Budget Committee and as a senior member of the Finance, Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and Indian Affairs committees.

He was asked by Senate leadership to serve on the Intelligence Committee, which is charged with overseeing the federal government’s agencies and bureaus that provide information and analysis for leaders of the executive and legislative branches.

In a written statement, Conrad said it was a “great honor” to be asked to serve on the committee.

"The men and women of our intelligence community are gathering information throughout the world to advance the nation's priorities and to keep our people safe and secure," he wrote. “I look forward to the unique challenges serving on the Intelligence Committee will offer.”
