BISMARCK — North Dakota senators have decided a law requiring the Legislature to record its floor debates isn't a good idea after all.
The Senate endorsed the legislation Friday. Today the vote was reconsidered, and the bill was ordered sent back to the Senate's Government and Veterans Affairs Committee for more work.
Minot Sen. David Hogue says the Senate should decide whether to record its floor sessions when considering its own rules.
Hogue says the North Dakota House and the governor shouldn't have any say in whether the Senate recordings are made.
Portland Sen. Philip Murphy sponsored the bill. He says the decision to reconsider it caught him by surprise. He said he didn't intend the bill to be "subversive."
