Earl DeLyle Erickson, 85, of Fisher, Minnesota, passed away Saturday morning, January 8, 2011, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston.
Earl was born on August 22, 1925, in Crookston, the son of Edward and Margaret (Tweten) Erickson. He grew up on the family farm in Roome Township, attended rural school and graduated from Fisher High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Earl married Vivian Field in Fisher Lutheran Church on June 29, 1957. The couple raised their family of five children and farmed small grains and sugar beets for many years in the Fisher area and later moved into the city of Fisher in 2005. Earl and Vivian were honored as West Polk County Valley Farmer and Homemaker in 2004. He enjoyed spending time with and attending the school activities of his children and grandchildren, woodworking, travelling, and listening to Twins games. Earl was a life-time member of Fisher Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school, and served as a member and president of the church council. He was active in the community and a member of the Fisher American Legion. Earl served on the Fisher School Board, Fisher Farmers Elevator Board, Climax Credit Union Board and the Valley Memorial Homes Board in Grand Forks. Earl will be missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.
Loving family members include his wife of 53 years, Vivian; children, Lynn (Jeff) Torgerson of Northfield, MN, Dale (Kristyn) Erickson of Cleveland, OH, JoAnn (Phil) Baird of Fisher, MN, John (Gail) Erickson of Duluth, MN, and Sandra (Mark) Cooper of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Megan (Ken) Elliott, Dane (Jade) Torgerson, Katie and Ivy Baird, Ian and Aidan Erickson, and Sam, Seth and Sophie Cooper; great-grandchildren, Taggart Torgerson and James Elliott; sister, Dorothy Larson of Moorhead, MN; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Marlow; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Ed Astrup; brother-in-law, Robert Larson; and his granddaughter, Sarah Cooper.
The funeral service for Earl D. Erickson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Fisher Lutheran Church in Fisher, MN, with Pastor Karen Young-Trenne, officiating.
Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Thursday, January 13 from 5-7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral at the church.
Interment will be in the Fisher Lutheran Cemetery in Fisher.
