MINNEAPOLIS — Josh Jooris scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as Union College beat Minnesota 3-2 Friday in the first round of the Dodge Holiday Classic men's college hockey tournament.
Jooris, whose goal at 16:56 of the second period tied the game 2-2, scored just 42 seconds into overtime to give the Dutchmen (11-5-3) their first win against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers (9-8-2) beat Union 8-0 the last time the teams met in 2005.
Jacob Cepis gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead but John Simpson tied it for Union, which is tied for fourth in the nation in scoring offense.
Mike Hoeffel scored for Minnesota on the power play, setting the stage for Jooris' back-to-back goals.
Keith Kincaid had 23 saves for Union, while Kent Patterson made 27 for the Gophers.
