Virginia Bentley Johnson was born November 24, 1924, in Northwood, North Dakota, to Gilman and Alice (Marstuen) Bentley.

Virginia Bentley Johnson was born November 24, 1924, in Northwood, North Dakota, to Gilman and Alice (Marstuen) Bentley.

She was raised in Northwood and while in the 3rd grade moved with her family to Grand Forks, North Dakota. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1942 and after her education worked at the University of North Dakota. She married Stanley Johnson in 1946. They divorced in the 1960's and Virginia returned to working at UND, working in the Continuing Education Department until retiring in 1989. She was hurt in a fall in 1993 and after 10 months of rehabilitation returned home. She moved to Northfield, Minnesota, in 2008 to be near her daughter Julie.

Virginia was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and Beta Sigma Phi business sorority.

Survivors include 2 children: Nancy and husband Russ Melland of Grand Forks, Julie and husband Mike Kopp of Northfield; 4 grandchildren: Matt Johnson of Portland, Oregon, Eric of Grand Forks, Alison & Michael Kopp of Northfield; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Harriet Winslow, and her brothers Stanford and Gorman Bentley.

Virginia passed away peacefully on Monday morning, November 1, 2010, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield at the age of 85.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Three Links Care Center Pathways Unit, 815 Forest Avenue, Northfield, MN, 55057.

Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home of Northfield.
