BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Carlson plans to develop a luxury hotel as part of the Mall of America's Phase II upscale expansion in Bloomington.

Minneapolis-based Carlson said today that it has signed an agreement with Mortenson Development Inc. to build a $130 million Radisson Blu at the mall.

It would be the second Radisson Blu to open in the U.S. The first Radisson Blu is expected to open in Chicago's Aqua tower in fall 2011.

The Radisson Blu would be the first hotel connected by skyway to the Mall of America and will be between Macy's and Bloomingdale's.

Construction is expected to begin in December, with the opening planned for late 2012.

The hotel will feature a restaurant and lounge, spa and fitness facilities, more than 23,000 square feet of meeting space and an indoor pool.
