St. Paul schools distributing breakfast in a bag as school starts
Minnesota students go back to school today.By: Associated Press,
ST. PAUL — It's back to school day for students throughout Minnesota today, and in St. Paul officials are making sure they get started with a good breakfast.
At 7:45 a.m. Superintendent Valeria S. Silva and Mayor Chris Coleman are distributing the district's innovative Breakfast 2 Go bags at Battle Creek Middle School.
The district says that while most school districts offer breakfast in the school cafeteria, St. Paul is among the few districts around the country offering in-classroom breakfast.
Research shows that students who eat a good breakfast learn better, have fewer behavioral problems and have fewer trips to the school nurse.
The district started the program last fall and now expects to serve about 13,000 Breakfast 2 Go meals a day.
