Spam has been used in a lot of dishes, but can you recall pizza burgers made with the Austin-Minn.-product?
Pizza Burgers
1 12-ounce can Spam, shredded
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
¾ teaspoon sage
¾ teaspoon oregano
1½ cups pizza sauce
½ pound yellow processed cheese, shredded
½ pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
18 hamburger buns
Heat oven to 400 degrees. In pan, brown Spam, ground beef and onion. Pour off fat. Add salt, sage and oregano. Mix in pizza sauce; fold in cheeses. Arrange bun bottoms on foil-lined baking sheets. Top each generous scoop of meat mixture Bake 10 minutes, top with bun tops. Serve.
Yield: Serves 18.
Approximate nutritional analysis per serving:: 313 calories, 15 grams fat, 48 milligrams cholesterol, 18 grams protein, 26 grams carbohydrates, 2 grams fiber, 889 milligrams sodium.
