Health Department: Flu deaths hit 70 in Minnesota

The Minnesota Health Department says 70 people have now died of the flu in Minnesota this season.

By: Associated Press,

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Health Department says 70 people have now died of the flu in Minnesota this season.

The department reported two more deaths on Wednesday, including one in December related to swine flu and one in March related to the seasonal flu.

So far, 61 people have now died of swine flu in the state since May 2009. There have been nine more deaths associated with seasonal flu or from flu types that were not confirmed by laboratory tests.

Despite the new deaths, last week there were no outbreaks in schools or long-term care facilities. Overall, flu infections remain only sporadic in the state.
