Blizzard calls overload South Dakota's road hotline system

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A telephone hotline that provides road conditions in South Dakota couldn’t keep up with demand during the Christmas snowstorm.
Some callers to the 511 Traveler Information received busy signals.
Dave Huft in the state Transportation Department said the system simply couldn’t handle all the calls coming in from South Dakota and surrounding states.
He said there were instances of 175 calls at the same time and more than 52,000 calls being made on Saturday.
