Investigators suspect murder-suicide in the Thanksgiving deaths of a Walhalla, N.D., couple, the Pembina County Sheriff’s Department said.
Authorities are awaiting results from the autopsies of John J. Kalis, 52, and Sharon T. Kalis, 41, before announcing their official causes of death.
The sheriff’s department said the husband and wife were found dead in their home, after a 911 call about a possible domestic dispute shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday. The call was made by a cell phone, and GPS data showed it came from the couple’s home on the 200 block of 12th Street, the department said.
Deputies, along with agents from the U.S. Border Patrol, responded to the call and set up a perimeter around the home. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact anyone inside, officers entered and found the bodies, the department said.
The department said autopsies of the couple were expected to be conducted Friday in Bismarck. Further information about the deaths won’t be released until the autopsies are complete. The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
Walhalla, a town of about 1,000 people, is in Pembina County’s northwest corner.
