Green bean casserole is a standard — and a favorite — at many Thanksgiving Day dinners. Here’s a twist on the traditional dish from Campbell’s Soup and French’s that’s sure to turn a few heads.
Deluxe Green Bean Casserole
1 10-ounce package fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 10¾-ounce can cream of mushroom soup
¾ cup half and half cream or milk
1 tablespoon white wine (optional)
6 cups cooked whole green beans
2 cups french-fried onions
Cook mushrooms in butter in skillet until golden.
Mix soup, cream, wine, mushrooms, beans and 1 cup french-fried onions in 2-quart baking dish.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until hot. Stir. Top with remaining onions. Bake 5 minutes.
Yield: Serves 8.
Tip: Use 1½ pounds fresh beans, cooked, or 3 8-ounce packages thawed frozen beans.
