Marvin M. Mechtel, 73, Page, ND, died on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Marvin Melvyn Mechtel was born on December 31, 1935 in Erie, ND, to Vernon and Phyllis (Sample) Mechtel. He attended country school until 8th grade and graduated from Page High School. Marvin also attended Wahpeton School of Science. At a young age, he became active in the family farming operation. Marvin married Georgie Eichelberger on February 20, 1965 in Fargo, ND. They made their home in the Page area where they farmed. As president of the farm corporation, he, along with Georgie, participated in all aspects of the farm enterprise. When time allowed, they enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling.

Marvin served on his township board for many years. He served on his church board and was involved in a program called “LIVE” (Laymen In Vital Exchange) Ministries, which involves a team going into a church for a weekend at its request and trying to provide for a revitalization of its members. This program allowed Marvin to travel to many states, including Alaska.

He is survived by his wife, Georgie, of Page; two daughters, Mindy (Wylie) Wetzel of Woodbury, MN, and Melissa (Cory) Rogne of Horace, ND; two granddaughters, Katherine and Margaret Wetzel; and a grandson, Max Rogne. He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew, and sister, Marilyn Kirk.

Funeral: Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Church of God (2856 N. Washington St.), Grand Forks, ND, with visitation one hour prior.

Visitation: Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the West Funeral Home (Sheyenne St. & 4th Ave.), West Fargo, ND.

Burial: Page Cemetery.
