MeritCare chief executive officer retiring

FARGO — The chief executive office of Fargo’s MeritCare Health System says he’s retiring Tuesday.
Dr. Roger Gilbertson made the announcement to employees on the same day the MeritCare trustees approved a merger with Sanford Health of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Gilbertson, who has led MeritCare for 17 years, told the employees he’s “honored to pass the torch” to Kelby Krabbenhoft, the new chief executive officer.
Gilbertson says he will stay for a while as president emeritus to help with the transition. The new health system is called Sanford Health & MeritCare.
