Cora Delaney, 97, of Larimore, ND passed away peacefully on October 20, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her family at her side.

Cora Irene Moen was born August 06, 1912 to Andrew and Karoline (Dyreson) Moen on the Moen family farm near McCanna, ND. She received holy baptism and confirmed her Christian faith at the Elm Grove Lutheran Church. She attended a rural Niagara grade school, Niagara High School (where she was a member of the girl’s basketball team) and received her Teaching Certificate from Mayville State Teachers College. Cora taught school for a total of 27 years. She taught grades 1-8 in the Grand Forks County rural schools for 14 years and later the Emerado Elementary School for 13 years until her retirement in 1977. She attended the University of North Dakota evening and summer sessions when she returned to teaching at Emerado in 1964.

Cora was united in marriage to Clarence Timothy Delaney on June 29, 1944 and they farmed in the Emerado area on the Delaney farmstead until 1963 when they moved to Larimore. Clarence preceded her in death in May 1978.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and had been an active member of Ruth Ladies Circle for many years. Cora was an avid gardener and frequently traveled to visit her family in California, Idaho and Minnesota. She enjoyed reading, doing her daily crossword puzzles, entertaining her family at her home in Larimore and watching the UND Women’s basketball games.

Cora was greatly loved and will be missed by her family including four daughters, Carol (Russ) Nesheim of Larimore, Jan (Terry) Hecox of Sandpoint, ID, Eileen (Rob) Boobar of Lincoln, CA and Donna (Tom Alt) Delaney of Wayzata, MN; five grandchildren, Traci (Tim) Pipkin of Canyon Lake, CA, Lyndee (Kevin) Cook of Elk Grove, CA, Stacey (Rich) Fatalo of North Andover, MA, Lisa (Phil) Escarraz of Grand Forks, and Scott (Crystal Bakken) Nesheim of Grand Forks; nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her 2 sisters (Agnes and Christine) and 6 brothers (Uldrick, Martin, Adolph, Selmer, Clarence, Clemet).

Services: Friday October 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior‘s Lutheran Church of Larimore.

Visitation: Thursday, October 22 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will resume for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Friday.

Interment: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND.
