From placing hand sanitizers in school classrooms to writing government protocols as thick as phone books, people throughout the region are preparing to battle a long-anticipated invader: the H1N1 flu virus, already declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. In a six-part series beginning Sunday, the Herald looks at steps local authorities have taken — and more drastic steps that could come with a severe outbreak.
