A teenager from Drayton, N.D., is dead and two more were injured after a car accident early Tuesday morning, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Veronica Villarreal, 18, was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang westbound on 74th Street Northeast about 5 miles south and 1 mile west of Drayton. The patrol said she was late in negotiating a left-hand turn to head south on 159th Avenue Northeast, causing the car to skid off the road and enter the west ditch about 1 a.m.

Jerad Brosius, 19, was riding in the back seat and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

None of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seat belts. Villarreal was taken by ambulance to Unity Hospital in Grafton, N.D., and later to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where she was treated and released a nursing supervisor said.

The front-seat passenger, Spencer Puppe, 19, also was taken to Unity Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
