Minnesota Poll: Little appetite for higher taxes

MINNEAPOLIS — The latest Star Tribune Minnesota poll shows that Minnesotans have little appetite for broad tax increases to balance the state budget.
Nearly 60 percent of those polled said income tax hikes for most Minnesotans would be unacceptable.
Instead, half of the respondents favor a combination of unspecified tax increases and spending cuts to help erase the state's $4.6 billion deficit. Forty percent said the budget should be balanced primarily through spending cuts alone. Only 4 percent favored doing it primarily with tax increases.
The telephone poll of 1,042 Minnesotans was conducted over four days last week. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
