Two snowmobilers are missing on Lake of the Woods after apparently traveling into an open-water area, according to the Ontario Provincial Police, or OPP.
Sgt. Darryl Wright said the incident was reported about 2 p.m. Saturday. It occurred near Cyclone Island, an area of the Northwest Angle on the Canadian side of the lake.
A dive team with the OPP will get to the area today to conduct a search for the missing snowmobilers.
Wright said a third person was also involved in the incident and was a survivor.
The incident isn’t related to a Friday accident in the same general area in which a trucker broke through the ice, he said. That vehicle was found in 18-foot-deep water, but the driver has not been located.
More information was expected to be released late today.
