Ribs, beer, music, art events offer plenty of mid-summer options
Go for the ribs and craft beer, and stay for the live music at "Happy Harry's Rockin' Up North Fest" from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at the VFW parking lot, 312 DeMers Ave., East Grand Forks.
It'll be an afternoon of rib samples, inflatables for the kids and more, organizers say.
Competitors will serve ribs from 2 to 5 p.m. The craft beer showcase, featuring eight local breweries, begins at 3 p.m.
At 6 p.m., the local band "Deliverance" takes the stage, opening for headliner Maiden Dixie.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 on event day.
Also on Saturday, bring your dog to "Pints with Pups" at Rhombus Guys Brewery in downtown Grand Forks. The afternoon event will feature door prizes along with half-price fills on growlers.
Reps of KLN Family Brands, based in Perham, Minn., will be on hand to offer samples of Wiley Wallaby Licorice and NutriSource Pet Food.
Bring your pup and you'll be automatically entered into a drawing for prizes.
Rhombus Guys Brewery is at 116 S. 3rd St.
The Summer Performing Arts Company opens its 2017 season with "The Music Man" this weekend at the Grand Forks Central High School Auditorium.
Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Monday and at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for children and students.

Sixteen artists will be featured in the "Art/Wine Stroll" on July 20 in Northwood, N.D., as part of the community's "Old Fashioned Saturday" weekend.
Stop in at six locations around town and choose from a dozen wines to sample while enjoying music and art by area artists.
Open to those 21 and older, the stroll begins and ends at Centennial Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Buy an advance ticket from members of the Women's Literary Club of Northwood, or at the park at 5 p.m. on event day.

Singer-songwriter and columnist Jessie Veeder will present a concert at 6 p.m. July 20 at the McVille, N.D., Community Library.
Veeder, who lives on a ranch near Watford City, N.D., also will sign her new book, "Coming Home," at the event that celebrates the library's sixth anniversary.

The Concerts in the Garden series at the North Dakota Museum of Art on the UND campus continues Tuesday with a performance by Erik Koskinen of Minneapolis.
The show opens at 6 p.m. with Manda Lynne, Grand Forks, on acoustic guitar.
Beer, wine and several food options will be available for purchase.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $10.
