PRODUCT REVIEW: Garnier finishing paste keeps hair looking healthy
It was sometime around Christmas of last year that I decided to cut off all of my hair and get a sleek, stylish pixie cut.
While it is incredibly liberating to have hair that is barely there, it is increasingly harder to style. An absolute must-have for this haircut is some kind of hair wax, paste or pomade for styling purposes.
I started off using the TIGI Bed Head Manipulator Cream. It had a great hold and was easy to use, but it left my hair looking greasy and left a sticky residue. It also cost about $20 for a two-ounce jar.
Then I found Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Finishing Paste.
Since it is a part of their Pure Clean line, it had the promise of zero silicones, parabens or dyes. Most importantly, it promised no stickiness.
When I opened the container, I was met with the sight of a whitish, glue-like paste. After I dipped my finger in for a scoop of product, I noticed it had a soft yet springy texture to it. Putting the weird consistency to the side, I warmed the product in my hands as instructed and applied it to my hair.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. It helped give my bangs a nice shape while adding some much needed volume and definition to my hair. It works great for controlling my cowlicks and matting down all of my flyaways. It also makes my hair look healthier and shiny without any greasy residue.
There are a few problems with the product as well. The label promises a strong hold but fails to deliver. It has a more flexible hold and washes out in the shower without the aid of shampoo. On days when it is hot enough to get sweaty, it loses its grip fast.
The smell of the paste isn't great either. It kind of smells like you were spraying Pledge cleaner into your hair. I have found that you can cover up the lemony smell with perfume or hairspray.
It's still a great product, though. You don't have to use a lot to see results and it has a nice and lightweight feel and leaves your hair looking healthy instead of greasy.
I will continue to add this product to my daily routine.
