NoVAC to turn on its southern charm

What: Southern Charm Social fundraiser

When: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday

Where: Badman Designs, 18 S. Third St.

The Northern Valley Arts Council is bringing some southern charm to Grand Forks.

Badman Design and NoVAC are working together to present the Southern Charm Social fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. next Thursday. The event will be held at Badman Designs, 18 S. Third St. in Grand Forks.

The fundraiser will feature a silent auction from a variety of different area artists. The money raised at the event will go toward NoVAC’s Arts Creation Center.

“It’s just a fun way to celebrate the end of summer and welcome kids back to school,” said Leighann McKenzie, office manager at NoVAC, who is helping organize the fundraiser.

The event will feature red and white wine, southern hors d’oeuvre’s and door prices. The fundraiser is free of charge, with donations going toward NoVAC’s Arts Creation Center. McKenzie also said people attending are encouraged to dress like Southerners.

McKenzie, a Southerner herself, said she hopes the event will allow the community to get involved and see what NoVAC and Badman Design is all about in an informal setting.

“I think it’s important to be involved in the community and not only get to know them, but also for them to get to know us,” McKenzie said.

Along with the auction, NoVAC staff will also give tours of the Arts Creation Center, which is currently undergoing reconstruction and will officially open near the end of 2015.

The center, NoVAC employees said, will provide space for organizations to make, rehearse, perform and share art of all forms.
