Dal Segno Concert
Aug. 15 at Hughes: The Northern Valley Youth Orchestras are holding a concert featuring students from its summer day camp Dal Segno at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Campbell Recital Hall at the Hughes Fine Arts Center. Friday’s concert will include a variety of classical and light string selections by the campers, who will have just completed five days of intensive rehearsals. Cost: $5 suggested minimum donation. Art and Wine Walk
Aug. 16 at Downtown: Join the Downtown Development Association, the North Valley Arts Council, local businesses and regional artists for an afternoon of wine tasting and art from 1 to 5 p.m. in downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. The walk begins at the Guesthouse Town House in Grand Forks and Blue Moose Bar and Grill in East Grand Forks and ends with a champagne reception at the Empire Arts Center. Artist in Residency Exhibit
Aug. 17-24 at Icelandic State Park: Icelandic State Park is featuring graphic designs and paintings by North Dakota artist Karen Bakke as part of the Artist in Residency Program. During the week, Bakke will draw inspiration from the park and incorporate it into her art. She’ll also host an art lecture from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 24, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a watercolor project to take home. Cost: $5 state park entrance fee per vehicle. Piano Talk Concerts
Aug. 19 in Grafton, N.D.: Brent Hermans is playing piano with a few cameo vocals as part of a Piano Talk Concert at 7:30 p.m. on select Tuesdays throughout the summer. The next one will be Tuesday at St. John’s Dining Hall, 1515 Western Ave., Grafton, N.D. with the theme “An Evening at Isidore’s Nightclub.” Cost: Free. Info: (701) 520-2680.
Blues on the Red
Aug. 23 at Town Square: This annual summer happening features the region’s top blues musicians and some of the best food around. Check out Blues on the Red starting at 6 p.m. in the Grand Forks Town Square, 6 S. Third St., and feel free to bring your lawn chairs. Grand Forks Public Library free movie
Aug. 16 at the Grand Forks Public library: The GFPL shows a free movie every third Saturday of the month. This week the showing will start at 2 p.m. It’s a great way to get out of the house and enjoy a couple hours of free entertainment. Popcorn will be provided. Off The Charts music festival
Aug. 16 to Aug. 17 in Cavalier, N.D. City Park: The Off the Charts music festival is a festival that not only provides great music, but also an exceptional message. Starting Saturday at noon through 6 p.m., there will be inflatable games, a rock wall, trampolines, and laser tag. From 5:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. there will be a series of bands. On Sunday at 10 a.m., there will be a community worship service featuring guest speaker Jim Hodgson of Oaks Hills Bible College.
