WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: UND receives verbal commitment from Fargo Davies junior
UND is coming off of its best season as Division I women’s basketball program, having won the Big Sky Conference tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
The program’s recruiting season is going well, too.
UND received a verbal commitment Tuesday from Fargo Davies’ Lexi Klabo, a 6-foot-2 junior who was one of the top high school players in North Dakota last season.
Klabo averaged 21.6 points and 10.1 rebounds last season for Davies, which finished fourth in the North Dakota state Class A tournament.
Klabo said a handful of factors led her to UND.
“I really liked the coaching staff and obviously they have a very successful program,” said Klabo.
UND’s Big Sky title and trip to the NCAA Tournament, where North Dakota lost to Texas A&M, impressed Klabo as well.
“That was a pretty cool experience,” she said.
Klabo was a first-team all-state selection last season and was the second-leading scorer in Class A.
Her commitment now allows her to focus on her senior season at Davies.
“I didn’t want to wait until after the season to commit,” she said. “I don’t have to worry about it as much. Now, I just have to work hard.”
Klabo said she also was being recruited by North Dakota State, Mary, and Minnesota State, Moorhead.
