Water line break closes Devils Lake school for day

Minnie H. Elementary School in Devils Lake was closed Thursday morning because of a water line break overnight.

The school and three nearby businesses along College Drive were affected, according to Joel Myhro, Devils Lake utility supervisor.

The pipe broke off from a shutoff valve, he said. Workers shut off water to nearby buildings Thursday while they replaced the valve and reattached the pipe, he said.

No buildings were damaged.

Myhro said it could have been worse if the break was in a main line. “It’s not on a water main. It’s just a service line so it’s only a 1-inch break instead of a 6-inch break.”

School expected to be back in session today.
