Upgrades for Grand Forks’ S. Columbia Road
The city of Grand Forks is planning to upgrade a section of South Columbia Road that city staff doesn’t have enough capacity to serve the growing south end.
The section from 40th Avenue South to 47th Avenue South is now a two-lane rural road built in 1998. A project planned for 2018 would add street lights, bike paths, curb ramps and storm sewers.
The estimated cost is $4.9 million with the city paying $1.9 million and the federal government the rest.
City staff is asking the City Council for $227,000 to hire engineers to begin the design now because of anticipated delays from buying up needed land. The council’s Service/Safety Committee will consider the request at its meeting at5:30 Tuesday night at City Hall.
