Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin could be out two to three weeks after suffering a broken thumb last Friday.

After Martin suffered the non-displaced fracture in his left thumb in the Timberwolves' 98-91 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, he was examined by a hand specialist and will be rechecked in two to three weeks, USA Today reported.

Martin has missed Minnesota's last two games and his absence has been felt in losses to the Portland Trail Blazers and the Houston Rockets. He is the team's seccond leading scorer this season at 19 points per game and a 39.9 percent shooter from 3-point range.

The Timberwolves signed Martin as a free agent in July to a four-year, $28 million contract after he spent one season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Martin's career averages are 17.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in eight seasons with the Sacramento Kings, three with the Rockets, one with the Thunder and this year with the Timberwolves.

Injuries have dogged the Timberwolves (24-28) this season. Center Nikola Pekovic has sat out eight games in a row with an ankle problem and forward Kevin Love has missed a game with a thigh injury.
