Thief River Falls fugitive arrested
A Thief River Falls man was arrested in Detroit Lakes, Minn., Jan. 24 for an outstanding felony warrant in Red Lake County.
Brian Allen Torkelson, 23, who was also a wanted fugitive by the Minnesota Department of Corrections, was transported to the Tri-County Correctional Facility in Crookston by the Red Lake County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 25.
He made his initial court appearance in Red Lake Falls Monday to face felony burglary, property damage and misdemeanor theft charges, said Sheriff Mitch Bernstein in a Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The charges stem from a break-in at the Plummer, Minn., American Legion Club in December.
Torkelson has been “on the run” since Dec. 21, Bernstein said.
Because of the state Department of Corrections hold, Torkelson was not given the opportunity of release from custody, Bernstein said. Torkelson will be held at the jail in Crookston and until his next court appearance in Red Lake Falls in February.
Beltrami County also has an outstanding warrant for Torkelson, Bernstein said.
Danielle Lamae Rasmussen, 20, Thief River Falls, has also been charged with felony burglary in the Plummer break-in, Bernstein said. She is not currently in custody and will make her first court appearance in Red Lake Falls sometime in February.
