STREET STYLE: Kelly Berntsen: From corporate to retail
After many years of working in corporate America and being required to wear business suits and high heels, Kelly Berntsen was excited for the switch to retail. She became the manager of Hey Ocean in downtown Grand Forks in February. Her work wardrobe now consists of more comfortable dresses and pants.
For a Friday afternoon, she sported a beautiful blue floral print dress and long white cardigan from Old Navy and tan Nine West heels. She finished the look with a long gold necklace, which she says is probably 60 years old.
- How would you describe your style?
“I never know what I’m going to wear from day to day. It could be everything from a dress and high heels or leggings and a sweatshirt. It varies completely. Flats and sandals are probably my favorite, but I love to put high heels on or knee-high boots. Every day is something new.”
- How do you accessorize?
“I inherited a ton of old costume jewelry from my husband’s mother and her mother… so I wear a lot of actual vintage stuff. I try to just wear one fun piece and keep everything else real small.”
- Where do you typically shop for clothes and accessories?
“Everywhere. It just depends on what’s out there. I love The Gap and Old Navy. I shop here at Hey Ocean. Nine West shoes are some of my favorites and I shop some shoes at Macy’s.”
- Do you have a signature piece?
“My signature piece is probably dresses like this — that really flowy, springy, summery type dresses.”
- What piece are you currently craving?
“I’ve seen a lot of the crop pants. Those look really cute. That was popular like 10 years ago, and they’re kind of coming back, so some crop pants for the summer would be kind of cool.”
