St. Michael, N.D., woman dies in crash near Devils Lake
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. -- A 54-year-old St. Michael woman died in a two-car crash Friday near Devils Lake, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported.
The woman was riding with a 40-year-old St. Michael man, going south on state Highway 20 from Devils Lake around 7 p.m., when he lost control of the car. The 1989 Oldsmobile spun into the other lane and was hit by a northbound 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Chad Tollefson, 37, of Devils Lake, the patrol said.
Tollefson's car struck the Oldsmobile's passenger door and both cars came to a halt on the shoulder of the northbound lane. The woman was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. The driver was flown to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for treatment, the report said.
Tollefson and four teenage passengers were not injured. None of the drivers or passengers was wearing a seatbelt.
The patrol did not identify the woman who died or the driver of the struck vehicle.
St. Michael is 10 miles south of Devils Lake, on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.
The accident is under investigation.
