Bob served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Bob married Doris Hougen in March 1949. He was a Standard Oil Bulk Agent for 10 years, then owned and operated Shide Oil Co in Larimore for 23 years before retiring. Doris passed away in February of 1979.

Bob served on the Larimore Park Board, the Larimore City Council and the Larimore School Board. He was a member of the Larimore Commercial Club, Larimore Lions, and Past Commander of the Ted Valeruis American Legion Post # 97.

Bob married Marion [Thiel] Hildremyr in December of 1982. They resided in Larimore, Lake of the Woods and traveled the next 25 years while spending winters in Arizona. In 2008, they moved to Grand Forks, ND.

Bob was always a prompt and no nonsense person and was committed to his family and civic responsibilities. His only form of relaxation was fishing which he enjoyed until it was no longer physically possible. Walleye can breathe easier now - unless there is fishing in heaven.
