Venison is a perfect stir fry ingredient, and this recipe from Kris Winkelman, who hosts the “Kris’ Kitchen” segment on husband Babe’s outdoors TV show, puts a new twist on the old standard.

“I don’t know if they have a deer in the orient that resembles a whitetail, but if they do then this recipe would fit right in,” Kris Winkelman says of the recipe. “Not only is it delicious, but it’s also incredibly healthy with the lean goodness of venison.”

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons rice wine

1 tablespoon brown sugar

½ teaspoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon ginger root (minced)

1 tablespoon garlic (minced)

2 whitetail steaks (trimmed and cut into thin strips)

½ bag stir fry vegetables

In a small bowl add soy sauce, wine, brown sugar and cornstarch. Then, in a wok or skillet, heat oil and add ginger, garlic and steak strips. Stir for 2 -3 minutes until brown. Add stir fry vegetables sauce mixture and cook for 3 more minutes on low heat until thickened. Serve over rice.
