Orville H. Farder, 98, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at his home in Grand Forks.
Orville was born on November 26, 1915 in Marshall County in Minnesota to Olaf and Clara (Lofthus) Farder where he farmed with his father.
On March 17, 1943 Orville married Leila Gowan in rural Oslo and they farmed in the Oslo area until 1967 and moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. He worked in carpentry and was employed by UND maintenance in married-family-housing until his retirement in 1984.
Orville was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, the Golden Kawanis and enjoyed woodworking all his life.
Treasured memories are left with Leila, his loving wife of 71 years; children, Lenaye (Darryl) Quern of Fisher, Minnesota; Terry (Charleen) Farder of Grand Forks and Tamra (Allen) Olson of Ocean City, Maryland; grandchildren, Stacey (Joel) Asp, Shannon Quern and Brent (Melissa) Quern; Jodie (Darin) Johnson and Naomi (Joe) Kapaun; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Andrea Asp, Dylan and Lilly Quern, Jayden Johnson, Grant, Kolbie and Gavin Kapaun; and his sister, Eunice Gowan.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Gerald, LeRoy and Maynard; infant sisters, Gwendolyn, Clarinda and Baby Farder; and two grandsons, Nathan Grant Farder and Troy Allen Olson; and great-granddaughter, Katie Marie Johnson.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks with the Reverand Roger Dykstra officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm and a prayer service at 7pm Monday, July 28 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Interment Memorial (north) Cemetery in Grand Forks.
