News veteran Jim Shaw to step down at KVRR

FARGO – Jim Shaw announced Tuesday that he is resigning as news director of KVRR-TV, a post he has held since the Fox station went on the air in 2000.

Shaw, who has battled a chronic illness since September, told his newsroom staff that he will step down as of Friday to more fully recuperate.

Shaw was able to return to work a couple of months ago following a medical leave, but said in an interview that he doesn’t have the energy to be as engaged as he would like.

“I don’t want people to think I’m on my death bed or anything like that,” he said, chuckling. “If I was, I wouldn’t be working.”

Shaw stressed that the decision was his, reached over the weekend in consultation with his wife.

Shaw, 58, who worked for WDAY-TV for 21 years before joining KVRR, has spent his entire broadcasting career in Fargo, where he arrived after getting a master’s degree from Northwestern University.
