Man in custody after Cass County hostage situation
CASS LAKE, Minn. -- A man who authorities said held a female hostage early Wednesday morning has been taken into custody by the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
Christopher Morris-Headbird, 31, of Cass Lake, was arrested after the sheriff's office activated the Emergency Response Unit at about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Morris-Headbird reportedly barricaded himself and a female inside a residence while possessing a firearm and making threats. Once a search warrant was obtained, at about 5:40 a.m., law enforcement began a lengthy negotiation. After terms were met, the suspect surrendered the weapon and both Morris-Headbird and his hostage were removed from the residence, the sheriff’s office said.
Morris-Headbird remained in the Cass County Jail. His criminal background includes felony burglary, robbery, assault and felon in possession of a firearm.
