Eggert, UND honored for academics

UND thrower Jayd Eggert and both UND’s men’s and women’s track and field teams have been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for academic excellence during the 2013-14 season.

Eggert was one of 727 female student-athletes nationwide to earn USTFCCA All-Academic individual accolades. The Minot native owns a 3.54 grade-point average as a pre-physical therapy major. As a sophomore in 2013-14, Eggert placed seventh in the javelin at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Preliminary Championships. She also landed in UND’s all-time top 10 in the javelin, hammer and weight throws.

Football

North Stars host Grizzles

The Tri City North Stars, a first-year semipro football team based out of Grand Forks, will play their second home game of the season at Cushman Field at 4 p.m. today.

The North Stars will play the North Shore Grizzlies. The North Stars are 4-0 and recently ranked No. 25 in the country by the website Semi-Pro Elite.

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 12 and under.

  •  Triathlon: My First Tri will take place in Grand Forks at 8 a.m. on Aug. 23. The event will include a 400-meter swim in Riverside pool, a 12-mile bike and a two-mile run on the greenway. Proceeds go to Northlands Rescue Mission. Participants can sign up at www.myfirsttrigf.com.
