GRAND FORKS — I am writing to endorse Doug Carpenter for Grand Forks School Board.

I have known Carpenter for more than 25 years. We started as softball teammates, coworkers and fathers of sons who went through Boy Scouts together and became Eagle Scouts. I still play softball with Carpenter today and consider him one of my closest friends.

I can say without a doubt that Carpenter is one of the most upstanding people you will ever meet. I have never seen him treat anyone with anything but respect. No matter the situation, you can count on him to be the calm and level-headed person.

While it takes more than being a great friend and upstanding person to be a leader, it is these characteristics along with his service as president of the Grand Forks City Council and involvement with other organizations that make Carpenter a clear choice to serve on the School Board.

Most important is the strong fiduciary and financial background he brings due to his work experience.

When you add all this up, I know with certainty that I want Carpenter making decisions on the School Board, assuring my tax dollars are being spent wisely and the school system maintains an excellent program for my grandchildren.
