LETTER: Reader fumes over N.D.’s neglect of flares
North Dakota Sens. Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven are sounding drunk on carbon. While they extol North Dakota energy development as a model for national energy policy, others around the world view us as near criminals for our flaring 30 percent of Bakken-related natural gas.
Every ton of carbon dioxide flared accounts for two tons of emissions. The ton that was emitted for no purpose requires an extra ton to do the work the gas flared could have done in heating homes or generating electricity.
On the road of energy policy, North Dakota is the drunk driver aiding a dangerous and reckless climactic crash.
