LETTER: Grand Forks Council members deserve a raise (cont’d)

GRAND FORKS — I appreciate the Herald editorial that supported my call for a pay raise for Grand Forks City Council members (“GF Council members deserve a raise,” Page A4, March 11).

The evidence is very clear that members of the council are among the lowest paid in North Dakota.

In 2002, residents voted to downsize the council from 14 members to seven members. The remaining seven continued to move the city forward, while assuming much more work and double the responsibility.

And it should be noted that the smaller council also effectively saved the city $436,800 in council pay (seven members x $5,200 x 12 years).
