LETTER: GF tourney hits Fastpitch Softball home run
GRAND FORKS — Fastpitch softball is a sport on the rise, both nationally as well as locally. This past weekend, Grand Forks hosted the 2014 Junior Olympic State Fastpitch Softball tournament. I am extremely pleased to report that your local Grand Forks Express fastpitch teams represented our communities well, earning runner-up honors in three age divisions to go along with a championship in the 14 and Under division.
Six years ago, I distinctly recall attending a state softball tournament and watching as my daughter’s team struggled to hit and field the ball, much less score runs and win games. This year, I watched as my daughter and her friends competed for a state championship.
Many thanks are owed to the countless fathers, mothers and dedicated fans of softball who have done so much to coach these young women, organize tournaments and manage the growing organization known as GF Fastpitch.
Herald readers who are parents of girls ages 9-17 in Grand Forks, East Grand Forks or the surrounding area and are interested in learning the sport of softball while maintaining a strong sense of sportsmanship and teamwork are encouraged to consider all that GF Fastpitch has to offer their daughters, not only as competitive athletes but also as young leaders.
