Jack Kouba northern pike
Jack Kouba, 9, Grand Forks, caught this 44½-inch northern pike June 25 while fishing from shore on Devils Lake with his dad, Kevin, whose helping Jack hold the fish. He was using an ultralight rod and casting a Five of Diamonds spoon when the big fish hit. “The only assistance from me was with the net after an estimated 25-minute battle,” Kevin Kouba writes. “The only reason I’m in the photo is because he couldn’t hold up the fish.” They took the fish to Woodland Resort, where it was officially weighed at 21.44 pounds.
